It Didn't Mean Much, But Damn It felt Good!!

Ok, I'll be the first to admit that Saturdays Miami vs FSU showdown didn't mean much in the grand scheme of things!! I mean neither team was ranked, both teams are all but eliminated from the ACC title race and both teams are flirting with the possibility of no post season, but as I watched this game the true Hurricane fan broke through my frustration and discouragement!! Let's be honest, the game was injury, penalty and turnover plagued. Neither defense looked great and at times we looked like we couldn't stop their offense. It was ugly, but beautiful at the same time. Let's talk about Kirby Freeman; I am the first to bash him and tell him how aweful he is, even yesterday I prayed for Kyle Wright to return, but for one drive, on one day Kirby looked like Bernie Kosar, Jim Kelly and Ken Dorsey all put together. To cap off a legendary drive, Kirby maned up and took a punishing hit, while delivering a perfect TD strike, which would become the game winner. No Kirby is not ready to lead this team, but at least for today, he is a hero in my book!! Maybe it won't get us ranked or even get us media respect, but any true Cane fan has got to be proud of this team for surviving a gut check and coming out on top. As for the rest of the season, I think 7-5 is a reasonable goal, and 8-4 is a big time stretch, but at least for now, I'm proud to support this team and proud to call myself a fan!! Hey maybe it didn't mean much to everyone else, but for a Hurricane fan who is desperate for something good to happen, it felt damn good...CANE-4-LIFE!!!

Who The Hell Are You??

Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you to USF wide reciever #89 Taurus Johnson. Now why you may ask is this information important?? Because Mr. Johnson must have forgotten that he plays for a team that has 1 freakish 6-0 start to a season, wins over an overrated WVU and Auburn team and a blowout over an overrated Louisville team a few years ago to their credit. Seems Mr. Johnson is ready to crown USF as the greatest team in the history of college football. In case you haven't seen it, here is his comment: "I thought we were already in the Big Three,” Johnson said. “I didn’t know Miami was still in there!!". Hey, I'm not from Florida, so can somebody tell me what kind of crack they are putting into the water in Tampa?? Ok grasshopper, let's get it straight, The U is down, but not for long. Let me remind you of who we were, are and will be again:
1) 5 national championships-USF- 0
2) 9 Conference Titles- USF -0
3) 2 Heisman trophy winners- USF- 0
4) The program holds the NCAA record for the longest home winning streak (58 games), which spanned from 1985 until 1994-USF- Dream On
5) 18 Bowl Victories- USF-1 out of 2 appearances
6) 4 straight BCS bowl appearances-USF-0
Look, I could go on for an hour, but the point is!! Enjoy your undeserved #2 ranking while you can, you got a long way and a few tough opponents to go, but for God's sake have some common sense. You are not Miami, you are not a top ten caliber team and any other year you wouldn't even be a thought in the voters eye. You are the victim of the most bizarre season I have ever seen. Win a few conference titles, National Titles and a lot more games, and then run your mouths!! Until then just remember who you are, a Cinderella story, The U is a dynasty!!! GO CANES!! On Thursday GO RUTGERS!!!

This Is Where It Started, And This Is Where It Can End!!

Unless you have been living under a rock, you are fully aware that the Canes need to start winning and winning like yesterday. Saturday the Canes will line it up against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. I have a special place in my heart for GT, because if you will check your history, the 2005 loss to GT really started this God forsakken downward spiral that we have been in for 2 seasons now. I know that the wheels started coming off as early as 2003, but the GT game in"05 really busted our bubble. Let me take you back in time to 10/19/05, almost 2 years ago to the day, Miami stumbled to FSU in the opener, then pumped out 8 in a row includin a beatdown of VT in Blacksburg and most recently a blow out of Wake Forest in Winston Salem. The Canes were returning home as the #3 team in the land. Sure they would have been a long shot to crash the National title party, but a return to the BCS picture was all but a lock. Myself along with many other Cane faithful were ready to crown this as the return of the U to prominence. It wasn't to be, a predictable Larry Coker type let down and a blitz crazy defense allowed the Wreck to stun the Canes 14-10 and start a downward spiral that we are still trying to stop. From there we all know the story: A week later we squeaked out a win over UVA, got humiliated by LSU in the Chicken bowl, lost to FSU in the opener in "06, jumped on the Cardinal, then got beat down, limped to 6-6, beat Nevada in the Smurf bowl to finish 7-6, got waxed by OU and stunned by UNC and that leads us to todays showdown with GT. So if the bleeding started against GT in the OB, then why can't it be stopped by Miami in the OB???? Can this team do it? Yes!! Will they?? I hope so!! What I do know for sure is that I'm tired of the losing, it's not the way UM operates. We don't look right losing, and whether they'll admit or not College football and the ACC need Miami to be on top again. Anyways I've ranted enough, and talk is cheap!! Hey Canes, if you're listening: Go out there Today and WRECK TECH!!! GO CANES!!!!

Feeling Carolina Blue!!

As I sit here preparing to blog, I swear I'm looking for positives, I am looking for reasons to be optomistic, but it's hard after a loss like this. I have to admit, as a life long Hurricane fan, I am truly tired of the losing. I'm tired of people laughing at this team and I'm tired of watching a team pretending to be the CANES!! It's pathetic!! These players are awful, where did they come from?? Oh that's right, as my fellow blogger Cane 305 already stated Larry Choker left us with this group of players who should be playing for Miami OH not Miami FL. It is clear to me now, we can't win with these QB's, either of them. I think Kyle Wright is our best option, but thats like choosing death by firing squad as opposed to hanging. In a nut shell Kyle and Kirbie can't get us where we are going. Am I saying this season is a loss? Absolutely!! I have a feeling that the next two months could be very painful for the Canes and their fans. Our defense has been exposed, our running attack is rendered null and void by a inconsistent pass game and we cleary do not have the best athletes on the field every week. Until we get all of "Cokers Jokers"
out of here, we aren't going to win. PERIOD!! So for the time being I am going to sit back and hope for some magic, but this team is a mess and I think we are in for some cold winter and fall nights in Cane Nation. Don't get it twisted though, my loyalty is strong, I'm just looking into the future and hoping Randy Shannon gets the players in here to resurrect THE U, because as far as I'm concerned theses current players don't deserve the title.. Go CANES!!!

Just wanted to take a second away from my ranting to say a prayer for the Memphis Tigers football team and staff in the wake of a terrible tragedy. In case you don't know Tigers 21 year old defensive lineman Taylor Bradford was senselessly slain outside of a residential building on Sunday evening. Having gone through this last season with Bryan Pata, my heart goes out to this group of kids. So for a little while at least, I'm saying Go Tigers, the Canes are behind you!!

I guess late is better than never when it comes to blogging. So here are my thoughts on the Duke game on Saturday. First thought that comes to mind is Why GOD!! Why is it that every time we have a chance to make a statement, we play awful? Why is it that we struggle with Duke so much, and why is it that our national championship caliber defense looks so mediocre at times? I try really hard to be positive and not too critical, but after the A&M game I was ready to hail the return of the U. We came out against a weak Duke team and fooled around for 3 and 1/2 quarters. Does it really take Duke driving down the field for a go ahead touchdown to motivate this team? Were the Canes bored? The whole thing was frustrating to me. Kyle Wright reverted back to the old bad decision making Kyle Wright before getting almost knocked unconscience. Apparently it worked because his first throw after a stint in the locker room gettin stitches Kyle threw a TD pass. I won't even say maybe Kyle should get hit more often, ok I said it, but I didn't mean it. Anyways, I really can't say much about the game because like most Cane fans who don't get Comcast Sports South I didn't get to see the game. I got to listen to it on the radio, which can be a very stressful thing. Maybe my ears were playing tricks on me or maybe I was delusional but to me Saturday was very disturbing going into conference play. We can't play like that against UNC,GT,VT,UVA,NCST., BC or God Forbid FSU. These are all decent at worst football teams and they are all better than Duke. Hopefully this is our sleepwalk game for the year and we can go on and play like we did last Thursday, if not we are in big time trouble.
