The Return of the U?

Somebody please pinch me!!! Where has that been for the past 2 seasons?? I don't care how die hard of a Canes fan you are, no one saw that coming. Let it be known that on September 20 2007, on a Thursday night the OB, the Canes decided to wake up and play some football, after 2 years of going through the motions. Personally I have not been this proud of a Miami team we rolled VT in 2005. Lets talk about Kyle Wright, who is the man in Miami right now by the way, completing 80% of his passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns, completing multiple passes on 3rd down and tossing missles down the field to wide open recievers. Did Kyle Wright finally decide to be more than a guy with potential?? Is he ready to be a difference maker?? I don't want to get too excited over one game, but the QB that I saw last night was not the QB who has struggled to stay composed against quality opponents over the years. The QB I saw last night was composed, comfortable and deadly accurate. Enough of Wright though, how about the offensive line giving Wright all day to pass and opening gaping holes for Baby J and Coop to run through. They deserve all the credit in the world for this win!! My final props go to the Hurricanes defense in a collective and dominating performance. That Canes defense looked like the dominating 2001 defense that destroyed everyone in their path. For a second there I thought I saw Ed Reed, Johnathan Vilma and Mike Rumph roaming the field, laying the smack down on a Texas A&M offense that had no answers. Interceptions, sacks, forced fumbles and punishing hits, it was enough to get me pumped up!! My only criticism is the turnovers, too many of them, on any other night they would have really hurt us, but other than that I was very impressed over all. It was good to see the OB almost full with orange and green clad Cane nation. I wish I could have been there, but unfortunately my curtain call in the OB will be the Duke game next week. Jobs don't always permit you to take off for football games, they're funny like that. Anyways, I owe this team an appology for calling them out last week, I honestly didn't think they would win this game, but I'm sure if they are honest with themselves most Cane fans didn't believe in this team either. So back to my initial question, Is this the return of the U?? Personally, I saw something different in the eyes of the Hurricanes last night, SWAGGER, that look like we can beat anybody, and I haven't seen that for a while. All I have seen over the past 2 seasons is Delusional Arrogance, but last night the Canes looked a whole lot like the Canes. Is the U back?? Until they revert back to Cokers boys, I'm going to say yeah the U is back!!! GO CANES!!!!

I'm Not Impressed!

I was truly hoping to be able to come back today and sing the praises of Kyle Wright and Patrick Nix and our explosive passing game against FIU, but honestly I wasn't impressed with any of the above!!! First of all, the playcalling was terrible AGAIN! I know it's early on in the first season but I'm getting frustrated with this coaching staff. We needed to go out there on Saturday and throw the ball until we got it together. We know that our backs can tote the rock, what we don't know is whether we can pass the ball enough to keep defenses from loading up the box against our run game. As far as I can see, we didn't learn anything, improve anything or take any steps in the right direction. We looked awful against a team that we should have been motivated to beat up on. I'm not optimistic about Thursday night showdown with Texas A&M. I love the Canes with all my soul, but the Aggies will pound us into the ground if we don't get our act together real fast. Now Kyle Wright is a great mystery to me, on one hand he makes throws that most QB's can't but on the other he holds the ball too long and throws Bret Favre worthy interceptions. This is not rocket science and the O-line is working their butts off so make the throws!! We needed to make a statement that the OU game was not an indication of where we are, but no one got that statement on Saturday afternoon. Honestly we looked like a team that is among the lower tier teams in the country, we looked like a team that shouldn't be in the top 25 and we looked like a team that is absolutely lost with no identity offensively. So what could we possibly build on going into Thursday night?? A great run game, a good defense and 1 really good pass against FIU, pretty thin huh?? Well I think the Canes can win and even though they played like a lower tier team the last two weeks, I don't believe that we are lower tier. I believe we can win the ACC and get to a BCS bowl, but only if we open up the playbook, run the ball well and for God's sake catch the ball recievers!! Right now I'm not going to predict a win on Thursday, based on the last two weeks it looks bleak, but I'm going to hope that Coker's Canes can suddenly become Shannons Canes in the next 4 days. Please wake up Hurricanes, your fans are still behind you!! Go Canes...

Wrong UM Ray!!!

As I was watching WVU Vs Maryland last night I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw none other than Hurricane legend Ray Lewis. Now I understand that he plays for the Ravens and wants to impress the home town fans, but did he have to go there??? Maybe I'm off base here but this really pissed me off. What the hell is Ray doing on Mayland sideline? It's not that bad in Coral Gables is it? To me this was just all wrong on so many levels. Like I said it may not be a big deal to other Cane fans but to me this was horrible. Hey Ray, I think you got the wrong UM big guy!!

Disaster in Norman OK.

Where do I begin??? Right now I'm struggling with my emotions over a 51-13 ass whooping the Canes took on Saturday. For me Saturday was the most humiliating loss I've ever experienced as a Cane fan. The 05 Peach Bowl disaster was bad, but nothing like this. I'm not the one to declare doom and gloom, but I'm really concerned about the state of this Hurricanes squad. I think our play calling was very Larry Coker esque and our defense looked anything but top teir. We still had too many of the stupid penalties that plagued Larry Cokers Canes. Kirby Freeman looked horrendous , falling 5 feet short on a screen pass. Kyle Wright at least played with a little bit of pride, but thats about it. Look I'm not taking anything from OU because they beat our ass and it was no fluke, but the Canes looked pitiful out there. I saw something in the Canes that I've never seen "FEAR". The Canes were intimidated!!! This game which was supposed to be a progress report actually exposed how far behind the curb that this Miami team really is. Okay I've vented my frustration and now I'm ready to move on. The positive is that this weekend we get to take out our frustration on FIwho in the OB. I think the ACC is very wide open and winable and the rest of our schedule gets much easier than the National Championship caliber Sooners. Don't get me wrong, I'll never give up on the Canes and if they are going into the tank I'll follow them right in, but I am frustrated with the performance last week and really the performance ever since the 27-7 beatdown of VT in 2005. I know it gone bad in the late 90's, but I don't remember it being this bad. I'm being critical right now out of frustration but I pray to God that we can turn this thing around and have a big season, however for that to happen thing have got to change and change fast. GO CANES!!!!

Time to "Put up or shut up!!!"

Well after a good showing against a "less than stellar" Marshall squad, the Canes take their National Championship caliber Defense and less than explosive Offense to Norman OK. for a true test of our progress on Saturday. I have to honestly say that this is the most excited that I have been for a game since VT in 2005. Unfortunately for me I got a new job and moved to DC, so i will not be attending the game, but you can bet that I will be glued to the TV. Let's state the obvious, this Hurricanes "D" is no joke(maybe the best, definately the most underrated in the country), we are going to give their rookie QB fits. Their only hope is to run the ball effectively. I am still not sold on our offense or Kirby Freeman. I make no bones about it, I am a Kyle Wright supporter, I think he is more poised, more confident and more tested than Freeman. 81 passing yards against Marshall is terrible. I think we have two of the most underrated backs in the country(Cooper and James) who will get a chance to show what they got on Saturday. The way I see it going is this, our defense will set the tone early with some brutal shots on OU's QB and hopefully force a turn over early and get some momentum. After that I truly don't know what to expect. I definately don't see this as a mismatch or an upset if we win, personally I think OU is ranked way to high with a very inexperienced team, but I don't take them lightly. If our Offense was better and QB play was more consistent I would feel alot more confident in the Canes, but truthfully I'm concerned. With that being said my pick still stands: The U will roll into Norman and do waht we always do there....WIN:
17-14 Canes

Maybe you like my pick and maybe you don't, one thing is for sure Saturday is one of the biggest games in recent Hurricanes history, and I believe once again those ghost of Miami past will push this team to victory...And that's the bottom line cause the Caneiac said so...Go Canes!!!!
